Preventative Care
Preventative Care
A foundation of health
Preventative medicine is the foundation of health for your pet. We are constantly learning and evaluating the latest developments in preventative care so that we can both provide and educate about this important service.
Vaccinations are one of the most effective and least expensive forms of preventative care for your pet. Our vaccination recommendations are based off of a combination of national core vaccination recommendations as well as diseases that pose a higher threat in our area.
For our canine patients, we recommend annual Distemper (actually a combination vaccination against Distemper Virus, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza Virus, and Parvovirus), annual Leptospirosis, bi-annual Bordetella (“kennel cough”), and triennial Rabies vaccinations.
Canine influenza virus and Lyme disease vaccinations are also available.
For our feline patients, we recommend annual Distemper (actually a combination vaccination against Rhinotracheitis, Chlamydia, Panleukopenia, and Calicivirus) and Rabies vaccinations.
We also recommend a Feline Leukemia vaccination for our feline patients that make any trips outside.
Based on our local weather, we recommend heartworm and flea preventatives year round as well as tick (and additional flea preventatives) in the warmer weather for all of our canine and feline patients.
If your pet is currently on monthly heartworm prevention, he/she is already receiving the benefit of a monthly gastrointestinal parasite dewormer as well. If this is not the case, we do recommend biannual deworming treatments for your pet.
We offer microchip services that include a national database registration and can be administered in a routine outpatient appointment.
We do offer select diets in our hospital and consider nutrition to be a vital part of keeping our patient healthy.
We currently offer a variety of I-Vet and Science Diet brand diets as well as prescription diets for those cases where it is medically appropriate.
Our “Whiskers Advantage” wellness programs combine preventative care and disease screening tests recommendations based on your pet’s age and health status.
Animals are such agreeable friends – they ask no questions; they pass no criticisms.
