Fall Flea Frenzy
Fall is here, and while we love the cooler weather, it’s also prime time for fleas to thrive. Fleas are a year-round issue, but they become especially active in the fall. Protecting your pets year-round is essential to keep these pests at bay.
Fleas: More Than Just a Seasonal Problem
Fleas can cause more than just itching—they can lead to flea allergy dermatitis and even transmit tapeworms. Once they enter your home, they can multiply fast, so acting early is key. Even indoor pets are at risk if fleas hitch a ride inside on you or other pets!
Multi-Modal Treatment: A Comprehensive Approach
Getting rid of fleas requires a multi-step plan:
    1.    Treat All Pets: If one pet has fleas, it’s likely the others do too. Make sure every pet in the house gets treated, including indoor cats.
    2.    Treat Your Home: Fleas can hide in all types of flooring, furniture, and bedding. Regular vacuuming and washing pet bedding are essential to getting rid of them.
    3.    Target All Life Stages: Fleas go through several life stages—eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults. Effective treatment must address all these stages, and it can take weeks to completely eliminate them.
Flea Prevention: Many Options Available
There are lots of ways to protect your pets from fleas, including topical and oral medications. Talk to your vet to find the best option for your pet’s lifestyle. Be careful with dog flea treatments, as some can be toxic to cats. Always consult your veterinarian to avoid any risks in multi-pet households.

Year-Round Protection is Key
While fleas are most active in fall, they can survive indoors through winter. Preventing fleas year-round keeps your home and pets flea-free.
